St. Francis Progressive Learners Centre is a community-based educational institution located in Kayole, Nairobi, Kenya. Established in 2008 and registered in 2009, the Centre was founded on the belief that every child deserves access to quality education regardless of their social or economic background.
What started as a humble initiative serving only five children has grown into a thriving learning community of 286 children aged between 3 and 15 years. Among them are 46 highly vulnerable children who receive educational support through the generosity of well-wishers and development partners the rest struggles to raise little levies of 15USD charged per month.
The Centre operates a Kindergarten and Primary School (Grade 1–6) and provides a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment where children can learn, grow and realize their full potential. Beyond academic instruction, we are committed to holistic child development by addressing barriers to education such as hunger, poverty, inadequate learning resources, and limited family support.
Serving one of Nairobi's most underserved communities, St. Francis Progressive Learners Centre empowers children with knowledge, life skills, values and opportunities that enable them to break the cycle of poverty and become productive members of society.
Education is our primary tool for breaking the cycle of poverty among children living in informal settlements. We provide access to quality education while addressing barriers that prevent vulnerable children from attending and succeeding in school.
Our education programme focuses on
☞Provision of quality Early Childhood Development and Primary Education.
☞Implementation of the Competency-Based Education (CBE) Curriculum.
☞Provision of textbooks and learning materials.
☞Provision of desks and classroom furniture.
☞Storybooks and literacy development resources.
☞Teacher support and instructional materials.
☞School feeding programme to improve attendance and retention.
☞Expansion of school infrastructure through land acquisition and construction of permanent classrooms.
Healthy children learn better. We work to ensure children have access to basic healthcare services and health information necessary for their well-being.
Our health initiatives include:
•Health awareness and preventive education.
•Referrals for medical care.
•Promotion of hygiene and sanitation practices.
•Support for vulnerable children requiring healthcare interventions.
Children thrive when families are empowered. We work with parents and guardians to strengthen family structures and improve child welfare.
The programme includes:
•Parenting education and skills development.
•Guidance on nutrition, health and child development.
•Counselling and support for families facing social challenges.
•Community awareness on child protection and welfare.
Through sponsorship, vulnerable children, particularly girls, gain access to continued education and protection from early marriage, teenage pregnancy, child labour and exploitation.
Child sponsorship helps provide:
•School fees and educational support.
•School uniforms and learning materials.
•Mentorship and psychosocial support.
•Opportunities for secondary education and long-term empowerment.
